URGENT UPDATE: Burma Protests + Aung San Suu Kyi
In recent weeks, the people of Burma have taken to the streets, first to protest petrol increases, and then to demand democracy. The
BBC
has great coverage of what is happening there, as well as the history of the conflict and of Aung San Suu Kyi's role. One article called her the ''Icon of Democracy.'' To further support her and her country's brave stand for democracy, we will be donating all profits from the sale of our HERO shirt and baby onsies depicting her to Burmese support organizations in America.

Like the South African leader Nelson Mandela before her, the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, has come to be seen internationally as a symbol of heroic and peaceful resistance in the face of oppression.
Aung San Suu Kyi, now 61, has spent 11 of the last 18 years in detention. Recently, Burma's military junta extended her sentence by another year, drawing an international cry for her immediate release. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1991.
The shirt artwork uses two transparent inks, one on top of the other, to create a three color effect. With her signature flowers in her hair, Aung's profile is framed by the words of a speech she gave in 1995 where she spoke of an old Burmese proverb,
''There is an outmoded Burmese proverb still recited by men, who wish to deny that women too can play a part in bringing necessary change and progress to their society: ''The dawn rises only when the rooster crows''.
