Summer Linen, Loose and Long

Linen and relaxed dressing was the name of the game at the fashion show on Jan. 16, which featured updated, moderate and better resources for Summer ’13. From dresses to suitings, linen dominated the groups of more than 20 lines.

Summer silhouettes were largely relaxed, loose and long. Some pastels, notably baby blue, coral and pink, had their day in the sun, so to speak, but colors were mostly muted neutrals, such as yellow, brown and taupe, beige and gray. On the whole, the clothing was minimal despite trend forecasters’ predictions that excess is making a comeback. (more…)

Summer Sundries

If variety is truly the spice of life, then last week’s contemporary fashion show, held Jan. 15 in the CaliforniaMart’s Fashion Theater, proved that this Summer is definitely going to be hot. Designers have drawn inspiration from the past, present and future, making this season one of many flavors.

Summer’s strongest item is, without a doubt, the cropped pant. The short-length silhouette appeared across the board in nearly every style imaginable, from STATUS’s girlie plaid and denim looks to LOVE AMOUR’s athletic-infused styles. Peasant tops and dresses also proved to be among Summer’s strongest items, especially ethnic bohemian and Indonesian looks shown by SINGLE, DONA JEAN and SUE WONG.

If you attended the Feb. 14-17 run of MAGIC it was pretty hard to avoid being bitten by the snake, devoured by denim or swirled in tie-dye. Designers and manufacturers hit hard on all three looks  making Fall a feast for the eyes. Here’s an overview. (Picture- A)

Kick It Up Fashion

The countdown to the new millennium

and its inevitable influence on fashion-particularly streetwear-is in full swing. The Year 2013 has inspired nightmare scenarios, with fears of chaos and demolition finding their way into styles that evoke combat and the notion of the survival of the fittest. The flip side is relaxed and colorful clothing calling to mind innocent dreams of being far away in safe and exotic places. The two trends illustrate a clear sign of these times for streetwear: Play hard, rest later.

The street’s the place to find young and lively fashion, and new lines have sprouted up from the pavement. ALPHANUMERIC, for example, recently broadened its offerings beyond traditional, skate and snowKick It Upboarding apparel, adding a girls’ line (under the same name) with a greater emphasis on fashion. The company’s Fall preview offers a sporty selection of fashion-conscious sweaters and tops, a stretch denim group, an outerwear group that includes a tonal color-blocked down jacket, and a technical polar fleece package including wind-stopping and moisture-wicking technologies. FASHION UNLIMITED!!!

I had planned to write this article and tell of the smallest amount- say 8 or 9 pieces that could make up a person’s complete wardrobe in which one would never or could never want for any other clothes! What? There isn’t any way that i could ever convince myself of this let alone anyone else. In my heart or thereabouts there has always been a large space left empty for those gorgeous little items that I would encounter in the shops that i just could not ever possibly do without! Occasionally it would be the mere feel of the fabric that would draw me in. Sometimes I would love the manner in which the fabric draped upon my body and actually made me look more polished. Often times I would find myself so attracted to the way a blouse appeared in a certain color as opposed to another color. Sometimes, though it’s just one detail of design that i find so appealing so special! (more…)
